May 28, Grow Your Own Food

It seems like every time I go to the grocery store I get less food for more money. Given the price of gas these days, it's really not unusual to see the price of produce soaring. After all it takes a lot of fuel to ship produce from California to Florida and it really doesn't make a lot of sense.

There are some ways to combat the rising costs. One is to buy locally grown fruits and vegetables. The other is to grow your own.

Growing your own food not only costs a lot less, but if you use sustainable practices you will know that you're getting the best you can without the use of harmful pesticides.

If you don't have a lot of room, try container gardening. Tomatos, herbs and strawberries for instance, grow well in pots. You can also try the Green Earth Box Ready-to-Grow System. It's a maintenance-free, high-tech growing system that makes it easy to control soil conditions for less guesswork and more yields. In fact, the patented EarthBox more than doubles the yield of conventional gardens its size, with less fertilizer, less water and virtually no effort!

If you decide to grow your own food, not only will you save a lot of money, but you'll be growing good health for you and your family!

Apr 21, Earth Day

Every year there is a day to go out and do something that will impact
the Earth in a positive way. That's great, but we say let's celebrate Earth
Day everyday! The Earth is our home where we get our water and food. All
the needs that we have are met by the resources from this planet. So not just
Earth Day, but everyday we can celebrate. Change a light bulb to cfl's. Unplug
your cell phone chargers and turn off fans in rooms you dont use. Recycle,
reuse and buy cloth shopping bags for groceries. Get a water filter for your sink
so you can eliminate the use of bottled water and the plastic containers that over
run landfills. Plant a tree or pick up trash in your neighborhood. Tell a friend.
There is so much you can do everyday. Remember, its the little things that make a difference.
Be the change. Do something about it.
Shop the Peaceful Organic Planet Store to find
products to help you make a difference!

Happy Earth Day!

Mar 11, Free Yourself From Caffeine

Are you ready to break the caffeine habit? Maybe you're just looking to cut down. After all, caffeine can cause many health problems, including dehydration, loss of calcium and can even aggrevate certain heart problems.

If you're looking for alternatives we have some great ideas you may want to try:

For an aromatic and exotic caffeine-free chai tea, crafted with full-bodied African red tea abundant in antioxidants, and blended with uplifting Tulsi and classic chai tea spices, try Tulsi Tea Red Chai Masala. Add milk or nondairy milk and sweetener for a true taste of India.

The latest evolution in herbal coffee that is the closest approximation to real coffee!
Teeccino Caffeine-free Herbal Coffee is a delicious blend of herbs, grains, fruits and nuts that are roasted and ground to brew and taste just like coffee. Now you can enjoy a steaming cup of deliciously rich, deep roasted, fresh brewed flavor that delivers all the satisfaction without the caffeine and acidity of coffee. We drink this and absolutely love it and it gives us a real boost!

So free yourself of caffeine today. You'll be so glad that you did!

Feb 18, Beef Recall - Think About It

Today we're all hearing about a beef recall, and I'm sure many of you have seen the
horrific pictures, caught by hidden cameras from the Humane Society, that go along with the story. Pictures of sick cows being kicked by workers and forced to walk with forklifts because they could no longer walk on their own. Cows that cannot walk are banned for use in the food supply because they pose an added risk of mad cow disease, or bovine spongiform encephalopathy, a fatal disease that eats away at the brain.

This is just one of many horrifying stories of animals in the food-chain being abused. To read about one organization that is really doing something about it go to Farm Sanctuary. They work to end cruelty to farm animals and promote compassionate living through rescue, education and advocacy.

What can you do? You could become a vegetarian and choose not to eat meat at all. If you feel that a vegetarian diet isn't right for you though, choose meats, dairy and eggs that are whole, organic and free range. The producers of organic agriculture have much more stringet practices that they must abide by in order to get the USDA oraganic label. The animals are treated very well and are very healthy. Thus, producing a healthier product for you. Granted, it will cost you a little more, but in the long run it will pay you back in a healthy conscious and good health for you and your family.

Although we are vegetarians, our little dog Roxi is not. When we feed her home cooked food, we buy natural or organic meat. It's well worth her health and our knowing that the animals are being treated humanely. If more people would choose to eat sustainably, we could put an end to these horrific actions of factory farms.

Peace,
Feb 12, Dogs Walk the "Green" Carpet at Westminster Dog Show

It's the time of year when my favorite event takes place.....The Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. I'm totally enamored with dogs, so words can't explain how excited I get to watch the parade of canines strut their stuff across the green carpet. I am especially fond of the Terrier Group and all that scrappy energy that they bring into Madison Square Garden. ( I suppose I am a little biased, since Roxi is part terrier).

If you love dogs, this is the perfect time for you to be aware of all the natural options available. If you're looking for a dog of your own, The Westminster Dog Show gives you an opportunity to learn about the different breeds and help you choose what breed would fits your lifestyle. It's important that people are educated on breed traits so that "mistakes" that turn into overcrowded animal shelters can be avoided. If you decide to get a purebred dog, do your homework and find a reputable breeder. Even better, adopt a dog from the animal shelter, breed rescure or go to Petfinder and search for your new best friend! Please avoid purchasing a puppy from pet stores.

If you already have a dog I'm sure you realize the joy they can bring to your life. Don't you want to repay them by giving them the best? That's why we created our Natural Pet page. You'll find great information to help you make the right decisions for your dog from Pet First Aid to natural grooming.

Looking for the best food for your dog? Check out our page on Natural Pet Food for great info as well as a list of the top natural and organic foods for your favorite canine.

Are you looking for alternative therapies for your dog? Look no further, our page on
Holistic Health Care for Your Pet
will give you tips to find the right alternative practitioner for your pet.

A big issue is flea control. Most people would do anything to stop fleas from eating their pet alive without realizing most conventional treatments can actually harm animals. Our page on
Natural Flea Control
will show you how to say goodbye to fleas without putting your pet's health at jeopardy.

If you're a dog lover and have one, or are thinking about getting one, please do your research and check out our information on raising a healthy and happy natural pet. Enjoy the rest of the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. I know I'll be glued to my set tonight to see who's going to be the "Best In Show". (I'm rooting for the terrier!)

Did you catch Oprah Winfrey yesterday? It was called "The Secret Behind the Secret" and we watched excitedly to see one of our favorite authors, Louise Hay. Louise wrote a fantastic book 20 years ago called "You Can Heal Your Life", and it still rings true as though it were written yesterday. She is an amazing lady at 81 years of age and recently had her book made into a movie of the same name. We watched the movie and are currently reading the book and practicing Louise's techniques and wonderful things are happening in our lives! We urge everyone to give it a try!

At the end of the show, Oprah announced her next Book Club book called A New Earth by author Eckhart Tolle. Oprah said it was a book that would change the way you view yourself and your worldit will awaken the highest self within you. Already excited about the book, we were ready to purchase it and then Oprah announced that she and Eckhart Tolle were going to be doing an exclusive 10 week online class based on the book live every Monday night beginning March 3. Now not only have we ordered the book, but we're also signed up for the class. Are you ready to be awakened and take part in this groundbreaking event? First buy the book then go to this page at Oprah.com and sign up to reserve your spot.
Jan 18, Winter Energy Boosters

It's winter. The holidays have come and gone. There's not a lot going on. It's the time of year when everyone could use a little pick-me-up of some sort to get them through until Spring arrives. Here are a few simple and natural tips to help you get through the winter blahs:

Put some spring onto your step by putting one or two drops of pure essential peppermint oil into your shoes during the middle of a hard day's work or inhale a little peppermint for an awakening of the mind and a sharpening of the senses. Right now you can get peppermint oil on sale at Earth Solutions. It's time to stock up!

Try a little Schizandra. Schizandra is a Chinese herb that stimulates the central nervous system without any of the jittery effects that a person may get from caffeine. It also provides a mental boost. Schizandra also increases physical and mental exercise capacities as well as improving adaptability to environmental stresses.

Awaken your senses with Organic Lemon Ginger Tulsi Tea. The excitement of pungent ginger, accented with fresh lemon, is complemented by Tulsi's spicy flavor and transformative energy. Tulsi (also known as Holy Basil) makes a delicious and refreshing tea that possesses wonderful health benefits that support the body's natural immune system while relieving the body's negative reaction to stress.

Keep your mental and physical energy from dipping by drinking at least 8 8oz. glasses of water a day. Even being half a cup shy of the amount of water your body needs can have a significant impact on your energy level.

Boost your energy level with a cup of oats a day. Whether in oatmeal, oatmeal cookies (yum!) or granola, oats pack complex carbohydrates and contain something similar to the active ingredient in natural stimulants such as ginseng.

So, if you find yourself suffering from a case of the winter blahs, try one or more of these simple pick-me-ups to get a wonderful and natural boost!

Jan 8, Time to Feng Shui!

Now that the holidays have come and gone and it's a brand new year, it seems like a great time to de-clutter! "Out with the old.", as they say. Following the principles of Feng Shui will not only help you to move forward in your life, but clearing out that clutter will bring a great fresh energy into your home.

Here's a few Feng Shui tips to help you out:

Start in the bedroom -

Clean out the clutter from under your bed.

De-clutter your closet. Let go of things you haven't used in over a year.

Take things out of the bedroom that make it look cluttered and that don't really belong, like tvs, exercise equipment, office related items or storage.

Move to the Kitchen -

Clean your refrigerator, stove and pots and pans.

Get rid of all your harsh chemical cleaners and replace them with natural and homemade cleansers. (more info at Green Cleaning.)

Clean out all the drawers, cupboards, light fixtures and anything else you can think of.

Lastly, focus on the Main Entrance - (Where all the Chi Enters)

Get rid of anything that isn't needed like pans or recycling.

Remove mail build up and keep it that way.

Keep only in season items in the entry closet.

Create a sense of beauty at your main entrance. Use pictures, mirrors or maybe a fountain.

If you focus on these three areas, which are the connected to your health and well-being, you'll create a wonderful and strong pathway for your chi to flow! You won't believe how good it will make you feel!

Jan 3, Frostbite and Your Pet

With the temperatures dropping everywhere (Even in Florida! Brrrrr...)it's time to think about the effects that could have on your pet.

A lot of peope think that cats and dogs can withstand cold temperatures because they have fur. This is a misconception. Some large dogs do well in the winter months and love to be outside, but others like small breed dogs and cats are more sensitive and do not tolerate cold. It just takes a minute outside for the paws of a little dog like a Yorkie to freeze up and have them shivering. If you have a small breed it might be a good idea to provide them with a coat and boots.

Cats normally don't like to stay outside too long when it's very cold. Always pay attention to the forecast before letting your cat out. If it gets colder and your kitty hasn't come home the next day they will be at risk for frostbite or hypothermia, especially if they are hurt. If you aren't going to be home, don't let your cat out of the house. Don't leave your pet out in the cold. It could cost them their life!

Even though animals have ways to deal with the cold, if exposed to extreme freezing temperatures for a long time the same mechanisms that keep them warm and alive can actually cause damage and death to the tissues of their extremities (tips of ears, tail, foot pads). This is what's known as frostbite.

Signs

If your pet has been outside and you think they have frostbite, here are the symptoms to look for:

- Shivering
- Ice on the body and limbs
- Bright red tissues followed by paleness and then black.

Here's what you should do:

- Warm the area with towels soaked in warm water or warmed ice packs. If the limb or paw is frozen, soak it only in a bath or bowl of warm water.

- Gently dry after you have warmed the area.

- Absolutely don't rub or massage the frozen tissue. This can cause damage.

- Don't apply snow or ice.

- Don't put your pet completely in a bath, because it will cause the body temp to decrease & cause hypothermia.

Once the tissue is warmed up your pet may be uncomfortable. This will also happen if the tissues are dead. To prevent your pet from causing self damage you should wrap them in a blanket. This will also keep them warm. You should be sure to get veterinary care for your pet, because secondary infections can sometimes lead to gangrene.

Jan 2, Time to De-Stress

Now that the holidays are over it's time to unwind and de-stress. What better way to de-stress then meditation. Meditation will release tension and revitalize your mind.

If you're like me, though, you may find it hard to keep your mind from racing and going over all those things you need to do or things that you have done.

Today I found this great beginning exercise for meditation on Yahoo. It is written by Dr. Maoshing Ni, the author of Secrets of Self-Healing:

Sit comfortably on a chair or the floor. Breathe naturally and close your eyes. Each time a thought appears, put it inside a balloon and let it fly up into the sky and disappear. Do this until the thoughts are exhausted. After a bit, your body will feel very light, and your mind will become still. The first few times it may take a while, but it will get easier and faster with practice.

I think I'm going to try this one as soon as possible! I hope you do too.

Peace,
Dec 25, Natural Tummy Soothers to Help You Survive the Holidays

The holidays have come and are nearly gone. One thing that remains
is the aftereffect of all that overeating. Between Thanksgiving and New Years
most people indulge in heavy foods & desserts and ignore what their bodies really need. Here are some tips that can help you avoid a stomach ache:

1. Be aware of your choices during mealtime. Stop eating when your stomach
becomes full. Fresh foods are always best for digestion. Avoid foods that have been heavily processed. Opt for high fiber foods like whole grain breads and fresh fruit.

2. Start your meal out right; according to ayurveda eating a pinch of salt, a pinch
of fresh ginger and a squeeze of fresh lemon juice at the beginning of each meal will
help stimulate digestive juices.

3. If indigestion occurs, try one of these herbs to help ease the pain:

Peppermint - Try a pleasant tasting
peppermint tea or combine with ginger
in hot tea or warm apple juice to yield excellent results.

Chamomile - Try chamomile tea
if discomfort persists long after the meal.
It can alleviate serious stomach aches and cramps.

Fennel - Try raw seeds or tea to relieve excess gas.

4. To increase the beneficial probiotic levels that are crucial to efficient nutrient
processing and to help speed digestion, include fresh, active culture yogurt in your
holiday menu. Make sure the yogurt is not more then 2 days old, or it will lose
it's effectiveness. If that will be a problem, try an acidophilus-bifidobacterium supplement
instead.

5. Make sure you are following a daily vitamin regimen. Vitamins E and B-complex are stomach soothers and
vitamin B-12 breaks down proteins and fats in the small intestine. If overeating has led to cramps, you may
want to try a calcium supplement, which relaxes the muscles.

6. Get moving! Not only does regular exercise reduce calories, but it also stimulates the body's metabolic
functions which includes digestion. Experts recommend at least 30 minutes of activity 3 times a week. Try a
vigorous 15 minute walk in the morning before eating has begun to wake your digestive system up. Leave the heavier
workouts until after a meal has settled. Indications also show that yoga helps keep the digestive system functioning
well. Yoga should be practiced on an empty stomach.

7. Here's an Ayurvedic cure for indigestion: Lie on your left side for 5 to 15 minutes and then go for a brisk 5 to 15 minute
walk. Lying on the left side helps food to pass more easily from the stomach to the small intestine and walking increases
your metabolism. Also, take a relaxed 10 minute walk 30 minutes before bedtime to settle the body's sytems and clear the mind.
Be careful not to raise the heart rate too much, so keep it light.

With a few simple tips, your holiday pain can be a thing of the past. Happy New Year!

Dec 12, Tis the Season for Restoration...........

So it's the last month of the year and there we are,
rushing around shopping, partying and traveling.

Now if we were to follow the earths natural cycle
we would be slowing down, staying at home after dark,
and restoring our energy.

Since we create an undue stress pattern thru the holidays
we tend to find ourselves over-eating and over tired.

The best thing you can do is slow down. Make the holiday
season less stressful by committing to listening to your
body. Eating cooked and simmered soups, stews and root
vegetables along with warming spices such as ginger, garlic,
black pepper, cloves and basil, as well as warm drinks help to balance
you thru the cold months. Minimize your intake of raw vegetables
and salad greens; instead steam them and drink room temperature
or warm drinks, not cold. This helps your body to process everything
because it wants to work less to restore itself during these months
naturally.

Restorative things you can do are walking, yoga, tai chi and qi gong.
All of these are best suited for this time of the year.

Get plenty of rest when the sun goes down if you feel tired and low
energy. It's natural to go with the flow. It's that time of year. Take it easy on holiday over eating
Curl up and be cozy with a warm drink and have a happy Winter Solstice!

Peace,
Dec 4, Fun for Kids & Adults thru the Holidays With a Little Dough

Whether you're snowed in, or just looking for something fun and
creative to do with the kids thru the holiday seasons and winter
or just anytime at all..making some dough to play and create
with can be great fun. So go ahead make some dough and play with your
kids...or make some dough and put in little jars decorated for gifts.

3 cups all purpose flour
1 cups salt
2 Tablespoons cream of tartar
4 Tablespoons vegetable oil
3 cups water
Food coloring
Essential oil

Take a big bowl, whisk up the flour and cream of tartar.
In a another bowl, combine salt and water and stir until the salt dissolves.
Add oil. Combine the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients and mix until combined.
Now is the time to add food coloring if you are only doing one color. Also
add the essential oil now. If you are doing many colors wait until later, break up in
clumps and knead it after the cooking process.

In a large saucepan take the big clump and cook over medium heat, stirring
constantly. The clump will begin to become a lovely, smooth lump.
When it's smooth and dough like it's done. Cool it,and smooth by kneading it until
it's nice and smooth. This is the point where you can break it into smaller clumps and
knead in the different colors. Cool completely before storing.

Have fun with your dough!

Dec 3, Make more with less during the holidays

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency reports that we put 25 more trash in landfills between Thanksgiving and Christmas then we do during the rest of the year.

According to co-author Robert Lilienfeld of the book Use Less Stuff: Environmental Solutions for Who We Really Are.
That 25 more during the holidays is equivalant to 2 billion pounds of garbage.

We can make a huge impact by making more with less during the holidays.
The Green Guide suggests giving homemade edible items in re-usable containers, gift cards for movies, gift certificates for wellness centers, and don't forget tickets to concerts and theatre performances, or dinner at favorite organic restaurants. You could always making donations to charitable causes in the receiver's name as well.

Try using free ecards instead of mailing paper cards for those you have emails for. If you dont know the email how about a holiday phone call to spread some holiday cheer? There isn't a more personal gift then a phone call, other then a personal visit.

Be a creative gift giver...use cloth to wrap with or reuse wrapping paper, gift bags, and paper bags. If you have to use new wrapping, look for eco friendly solutions. Look for 100 post consumer waste content. Try tree free fibers such as hemp, organic cotton fiber, or flax.

Here is another great suggestion: Buy petroleum free candles without lead wicks. Try soy candles or beeswax. Give a gift that is healthy for your receivers environment, not one that will hurt them or the environment.

For more great gift ideas check out our page on Organic Gifts!

Here's to a thrifty eco-friendly holiday season to all.

Dec 2, Oh Christmas Tree, eco-friendly Christmas Tree

Are you struggling with the dilemna of choosing what type of tree is the most eco-friendly?
We've been thinking about that for years. On one hand I always felt so bad that a real tree
would get chopped down to reside in your house for a few weeks and then get thrown to the curb
when it was no longer wanted. We went with the fake tree for a couple of years, and then tried
the potted tree. One of the potted trees lived after being planted in the ground and is now a
thriving 7-8 feet tall. The other, sadly, never made it. So, what really is the best way to go?

Believe it or not, the experts at Treehugger say that it's actually better to go with a cut real tree
then a fake one. The reason is that fake trees are made from polyvinyl chloride (PVC), which creates
a lot of pollution and is difficult to recycle. Also there have been several instances, especially
in older artificials, when lead was found. Farmed Christmas trees are a renewable source.
For every real Christmas tree harvested, up to three seedlings are planted in its place the following spring.
They also absorb carbon dioxide and can be recycled into mulch after the holidays. Check with
The National Christmas Tree Association to find out where you can recycle your tree.

Live trees are often promoted as the best eco-friendly holiday option, but this will only work
if you live in the right climate to plant the tree after the holiday. If the ground is frozen
you can't do it. Also, you can only keep live trees inside for about 4 to 10 days depending on the
type, or it will die. If you do live in the right climate, you must consider if you have enough
room to accommodate a tree that could grow up to 60 feet tall.

So if you choose to go with a cut real tree, which really is the most eco-friendly, here are a few
guidelines to follow:

-Try to buy an organic Christmas tree.

-Buy from smaller, local farms to reduce transportation miles and support a small, sustainable operation.

-Dont use tinsel or fake snow spray; they are hard to remove and make your tree ineligible for recycling.

If you really don't want to deal with a real tree, and must have an artificial one, try a
Feather Tree or an ornament tree.

If you want something live, decorate a houseplant. A giant rosemary bush looks and smells great, and can be planted outside when the
weather turns.

Regardless of what you choose, try to be as eco-friendly as possible and have a very happy holiday!

Peace,
Nov 20, Thanksgiving for Everyone!

Thanksgiving

Hi Everyone,
It's almost Thanksgiving once again, which means lots of friends and family getting together for
good food, good fun and good conversations along with expanding waistlines. For vegetarians and
friends or family of vegetarians, Thanksgiving can be quite a challenge. What do you do for those
who don't partake in the main event of eating Turkey? Although I am a vegetarian now, turkey was never the main
event on my plate when I was consuming meat. In fact it was always the last thing to go, and sometimes
got left because I was always too full.

There are a few things you can do to make a fantastic holiday meal that will satisfy both those
who will eat the turkey and those who will not. You may want to provide an alternative protein source as a courtesy,
but there's really no need to make a veggie and non-veggie version of the side dishes. Here are some ways to
accomodate your veggie friends on the sides:

1. Instead of using turkey or chicken broth for the gravy and the stuffing, use a veggie broth as a substitute. It will
all taste just as delicious.

2. Watch out for hidden ingredients that may keep your vegetarian friends from eating them. Marshmallows or anything containing
gelatin are not vegetarian. Try leaving them off the sweet potatos, and instead try a little maple syrup or brown sugar on them.

3. Don't make a fake-meat entree unless your guests request it. Not everyone likes Tofurkey. A better option may be to make
a simple high-protein entree that won't compete with the other sides. The grain Quinoa is really high in protein, so you may
want to do a quinoa type casserole.

4. If you are going to have baked beans, make sure they are vegetarian beans. Most baked beans contain bacon or lard, but there
are now vegetarian versions.

5. Check with your friends to see if they are vegans. If so, get together with them to see if there are any
special things you can make for them. Some sides are just simply hard to do without dairy and eggs, but things
like stuffing and pumpkin pie can be made without.

Nov 9, Veria

We were surfing around the TV one day and there was a preview on for this great new channel called "Veria". This channel is dedicated to bringing natural wellness to the mainstream.

There are fantastic shows! One of my favorites is called "The Sweet Truth". You can learn how to make decadent, sweet desserts without using sugar. Since I have such a sweet tooth myself, this is perfect for me. There's also a full hour yoga class that airs every day, a show on herbs and so many others.

Needless to say, we promptly ordered the channel to be a part of our viewing package for good. This channel is only available on the Dish Network, so if you have The Dish we urge you to order Veria right away. If you don't, you can check their website out at: Veria.com. You'll get a summary of the episodes of all the shows along with any recipes available. So check it out!

Here's an article about this great new channel at Yahoo Finance

Nov 1, Organic Milk Deemed Healthier For You

I found this article about organic milk online and thought
it was important, so I'm adding it to the blog. We hope that
the FDA here in the U.S. will soon follow suit:

Organic Milk is healthier than standard pasteurized milk,
scientists have said in a call on the UK Government to revise
official advice.

A letter written by 14 scientists that was received
today by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) claims that
organic milk has higher levels of Omega 3 essential
fatty acids, which are thought to boost health and
provide protection from coronary heart disease.
The authors of the letter want the FSA to change
its stance on organic milk and recognize that
there are differences that exist between organic
and nonorganic milk

Yoga Studied as Health Benefit for Breast Cancer Survivors

By Ohio State University Medical Center

Oct 16, 2007 - 6:21:57 PM
(HealthNewsDigest.com) - COLUMBUS A new study at Ohio State University Medical Center seeks to determine whether yoga can relieve fatigue and depression and positively affect immune function in breast cancer survivors. (maybe a yoga photo here or link to gaiam)

The study, based in the Institute for Behavioral Medicine Research, will examine the effects of consistent yoga practice on women who have completed treatment for stage I, II or IIIa breast
cancer. Women must have completed treatment within the past two years but must not have had surgery, radiation or chemotherapy within the past two months.

The study is led by Dr. Janice Kiecolt-Glaser, director of the division of health psychology in the Ohio State University College of Medicine, who also is a co-leader of a separate ongoing study at Ohio State of yogas effects on stress in women................................
To read the rest of this article please click here:
Aug 26, Say No to Leaching Toxic Water Bottles

Everywhere you look someone is drinking water out of a nicely designed plastic water bottle,
convenient and easy, no thought involved but the thought of toxins leaching into your water.
I have heard about it on the news, on currenttv.com and other sources on the internet.
I have resolved to the fact that I no longer want to tempt fate with bpa or bishenol which
is the component of lexan polycarbonate resin that the bottles are made of. It's been found
that bpa has a potent hormone disruptor that can impair the reproductive organs & have adverse
effects on breast tissue.

Needless to say with this information I wanted to make everyone aware that drink singles and
gallons of water that they should find alternatives to carrying their water. You could get a Filter
for your tap water for one or a filtered water pitcher. If you have a baby there are alternative glass
bottlesavailable, as well as Stainless Steel Water Bottles. Not only
do you want to avoid using these bottles because of your health, but because of the unusable waste
they accumulate. Recycling these plastic bottles is more costly than it is to produce them. So help
with your dollars don't buy plastic water bottles, and buy yourself a filter. Save the planet and
start voting for what you really want with your dollars. Also think of all the money you'll save
not having to buy your water.

Aug 21, Ten Ways To Be Green

1.) Unplug cell phone chargers. Put appliances, tvs and dvrs on power
strips to turn off

2.) Use less water - turn off water when not using while brushing teeth.
Buy faucets and toilets that let less water flow.

3.) Switch to Compact Fluorescent Lightbulbs
- replace as you can or buy
in bulk, which will get you a savings, not to mention the money you'll save on
your electric bill from using them.

4.) Choose products with less packaging - companies that are
enviromentally savvy will package with as little material as possible
and will use recycled material.

5.) Buy organic and local foods - look for organic foods in your area.
many super markets have organic products in one section or spread throughout the store.
there are many, whole food and natural stores and co-ops. You"ll need to do a little
research to find the resources closest to you. Check out
Local Harvest

6.) Drive less - walk, bike, take public transportation, or car pool as
much as possible to reduce use of oil.

7.) Plant a tree!- go to a local nursery and find a nice tree for your
home or yard.

8.) Recycle more - take the time to make a recycling area in your home or
business,or find a local recycling station in your area...don't forget about
household chemicals, used oil, antifreeze and batteries. They all have a place, so call your
local waste management and find out where yours go.

9.) Switch to "green" power via your local utility company.

10.) Spread the word!!! Tell a friend or relative. Make a copy of this list
and pass it on!!

Peace!
Aug 12, Generations From Now

Generations from now...
what will it be like?
I mean really, are our intentions
to be true stewards of the Earth
for generations to come? I thought
about that question long and hard as
I glared at the price under this bottle
of non-toxic, biodegradable,hypo-allergenic
natural dish soap, knowing I could get
a bottle this size for less money of another brand of
dish soap. Then I picked the bottle up and read it...
"You are making a difference.", was the headline on the
back label.

"If every household in the U.S. replaced
just one bottle of 25 0z. petroleum based dishwashing
liquid with our 25 oz. vegetable based product, we could
save 81,000 barrels of oil, enough to heat and cool 4,600
homes for a year!" the lable read.
Wow, that was amazing to
me! No choice after that. I had been informed. I am aware I cannot
just continue to use something because it's less money. I'll
be careful not to overuse, to cherish this and use sparingly.
Then I turned it back around and read the front.
"In our every deliberation, we must consider the impact of
our decisions on the next seven generations." From the great
law of the Iroquois Confederacy.

Seventh Generation is the product. You can find many Seventh Generation Products at Amazon. They make so many different products.
Today I'm going back for the laundry soap with a coupon I got when I
got home and looked up their website Seventh Generation.com
They have $1.00 off coupons for all their products and you can also look
up a store in your area that sells their products. Oh, and I almost forgot to tell you, they also smell heavenly.

Aug 5, Eco Friendly Yoga Mat

A little over 6 years ago, I began to practice yoga. I had been injured at work
& during my recovery period, someone was kind enough to share their yoga journey
with me. The first thing I did was buy a tape and a yoga mat. Gaiam carried both of these
products. The instruction tape was by a wonderful human being, Rodney Yee. I watched
the tape, and then tried the poses. I was on my way to a wonderful healing journey.
Yoga changed my life. What therapy and medication couldn't do for me, yoga did.
Thru this journey I have made yoga a daily part of my life. What I was told I'd never

Last year my trusty yoga mat was looking kind of worn. This time I decide to get an

I just love this mat. It's machine washable,
and I never slip. I wish I could share what kind of flow yoga has brought to my life
with everyone I know, but there's only one way for any of them to know, and that's to
give it a try. Starting slowly at home with dvds or a local class is a great way to go.
Visit our yoga page under the natural healing section for more yoga information.

Here is the tape I started with: A.M. and P.M. Yoga for Beginners

As time progressed and I became more limber I began doing Yoga Journal's Yoga for Energy.
This is an all around great workout.

If you want to lose weight try Yoga Conditioning for Weight Loss - Deluxe DVD Edition.
An excellent choice for beginners.

Jul 29, Recycle and Freecycle

Recently I've been cleaning out closets and storage areas, and found
there are lots of things I have that I don't use but are still useful. I don't think
they belong in a landfill, since there are so many people in need. I took some things to the thrift
store and they didn't need what I had. At this point most people would've looked
for the closest garbage dumpster but I knew every choice I make affects the future of our
planet.

I got turned on to this site called Freecycle. It's a website where you post items you want someone to come and take, and request things you need.
It's a great way to keep things out of landfills and supply others with what they need. It's also a great way for
you to get something that you need. Call it paying forward. What a fantastic way to clean up and take
care of the planet. Freecycle has local lists for each area so check it out.

Another thing I want to address is plastic bags. If you're like most people, you bring your
purchases home in plastic bag and use some of them for things like lining waste baskets, but virtually end
up with more then you can use. What can you do with all those bags? If you sew, you could use them as stuffing to make fluffy throw pillows.
Simple to make, and the stuffing is free. What cool gifts!

Plastic bags have been banned in San Francisco and other places.
Petroleum is used to process plastic bags, and they're more expensive to dispose of then to make.
Plastic bags end up in water all over the planet. In the ocean they look like jellyfish and dolphins, birds and other animals have died from eating, or being strangled by bags. Bags also end up in trees and drainage pipes. Recycling bags can help out a lot, but better yet, bring your own reusable bag to the store. There are lots of affordable choices for eco-friendly reusable shopping bags and most of them are washable.
I use Chico Bags.
They can hold 20 pounds, yet fold up into a small pouch so you can carry them anywhere. And they're only $5.00. They make great gifts too.
It's a great feeling knowing when you refuse the plastic & paper bags that you're helping to save and transform the planet into a better place.
Click here for a list of other great Reusable Shopping Bags.
Usually people think its cool when they see me stuffing my bags and I always tell them why.
In short I'm doing my part and if everyone did their part, what a difference it would make to this
peaceful organic planet. So use your reusable bags for groceries and everything else.

Until next time
Peace,
Jul 25, Organic, Natural Gardening & Health Remedies

Summer time and gardening go hand in hand.
If you love it like I do it becomes a form
of Discover yourself meditation, and special way to stay in
touch with nature. I love to watch the dragon
flies and butterflies that come to the colorful
plants and flowers. I read a lot of books, and search for things
I can use to resolve pest problems in the garden.
Did you know that ants can be repelled by Penny Royal or
Spearmint? For indoor ant problems try some cucumber
slices.

I also read that it's really important to use organic matter, like plant matter or animal manure, in your garden beds. It releases gradually in the soil feeding your plants the
nutrients necessary for growth. It also helps the water holding capacity of the soil, improves aeration and reduces crusting. Another thing I discovered is that planting
castor beans and foxglove will repel deer. My grandma had that problem as well do many folks.

I learned that some great insecticidal flowers to plant are
asters, chrysanthemums, cosmos, coreopsis, nasturtiums, and French
and African marigolds. I have beautiful roses, and its partly due to dried banana
peels and garlic. Yes, Roses Love Garlic and that's the name of this
really informative, must have guide book about companion planting and other
secrets of flowers. I couldnt believe how this little paperback could have so much information in it. I use it for so many things.
I learned which plants get the same kind of pests and shouldnt be planted together. I also discovered the many uses of different flowers and plants, one of them being how to make natural dyes from different parts of the plants.
This is an amazing and resourceful book I recommend it for anyone that wants
to learn more about natural and organic gardening and need to have it at their finger tips.

All this talk about gardening makes me want to go walk through the flowers
and watch the butterflies play on this Peaceful Organic Planet.
Until next time.....Peace

Jul 24, You Can Help Shape the World

Every choice we make can be world changing.
We can shape the world with each dollar we spend.
As the demand for organic and green living
products begins to soar, the world
will change to meet that demand.
Buying organic and locally and living green & sustainably
will begin a snowball effect. Be the change.
It's not only what you buy it's the little things you do;
For instance, I decided to start by making
little daily change. One being just not running the
water while I brushed my teeth. Another was making
sure that lights and fans werent on in rooms I wasnt in.
Those were simple.

Then I found out if you put your
electronics, tv, dvr, etc. on a power strip, you can easily
shut them off when youre not using them with a flip of a switch.
Try this Smart Strip.
If everyone just unplugged their phone charger when not in use, it could really save
a lot. The next thing I did was purchase Compact Fluorescent Lightbulbs
for the five major lights that I used. Then I replaced the
rest the following month. My monthly electric bill went down
$30.00 and the bulbs have much longer life spans than a
regular light bulbs. What I found amazing was that they had all shapes
and sizes, Black CFLs, Bug CFLs, and Flood CFLs, as well as all the indoor bulbs.
I also found buying them in bulk was cheaper then buying them one at a time. It can take some time to find the stores
in your area that carry what you want or need, Amazon carries
All CFLs.

Want to find out how much power your devices, lights and appliances are using?
Try this handy little device: Kill-A-Watt.

These are just a few things we can work on together - creating a sustainable
balance that suits each individuals needs.

So heres to all of us being the change, from what we buy to what we
do, to save this peaceful organic planet.

Until Next Time
Jul 19, World Changing Ideas

It's summer and there's not a better time to take a few minutes, kick back and enjoy some good reading. This organic blog will cover many things... going green, organic living and how it can change the world. We are all visionaries in one way or another and the little things we do, whether we believe it or not, truly can make a big difference. Like putting one penny at a time in a jar until it's full to the brim and becomes one big sum total.

I found a great book which covers a lot of things you may know, and most likely plenty that you don't. It's called Worldchanging: A User's Guide for the 21st Century...complete with a forward by Al Gore. The book is filled with world changing ideas that can make our future much brighter. It touches on everything you can imagine
that affects the planet and us as its inhabitants. It is a great resource guide which comes in a wonderful & colorful sleeve to protect its beautiful hard cover. Granted, this isn't one of those sit down in an hour and it's done books, but rather sit down with it for one hour and you will be more aware and on your way with a gift of certain knowledge that can change our planet. This is something that would make an awesome gift...but first you have to get one for yourself. World Changing - A must read.

Another thing we cover at Peaceful Organic Planet is body, mind and spirit. I just read a book that was fabulous and I just couldn't put it down. It is a wonderful story of just that...bringing body, mind & spirit to full enlightenment. It has all the elements of a wonderful drama, love story, and mystery all packed into one. The title of this book is Buddha: A Story of Enlightenment and was written by New York Times best selling author, Deepak Chopra. Even if you know nothing about Buddha, or think you might not want to, then think again. As a story, it stands on its own.

These are two must read books that you should add to your collection. Happy reading and learning. Here's to us changing the planet!

Peace from Robin at
